GLOVES OFF!
SSM`s powerful new puncher really can take on the world.
SSM has recently - and spectacularly - invested in the very latest, high-tech Trumpf TC 5000R punching machine, complete with Trumalift automatic sheet loading and part-picking system.
A CNC-controlled, sheet metal-working machine for punching, nibbling and forming flat work pieces from steel, copper, aluminium and corresponding alloys, the TC 5000R is currently the fastest punching machine in the world. Its weight-optimised co-ordinate guidance, lightweight, rapid tool-change cartridges, automated calculation and newly-developed hardware and software will enable an enormous increase in productivity for SSM.
Our customers will benefit hugely from an amazing process consistency which delivers state-of-the-art punching standards and high precision, scratch-free machining. With shorter lead times, quicker turnarounds and significant quality improvements, the TC 5000R is a hands-down winner, giving SSM today a punching power few can hope to match.
CLASS ACT…
New student strengthens SSM links with Nottingham Business School.
Reinforcing its links with Nottingham Trent University`s Business School, Sawford Sheet Metal has - for the third year running - offered an industrial placement to a local Business Studies student. Kate Gibson, who has been with the company since August 2002, is finding the experience invaluable:
"It`s fantastic having the opportunity to develop my business skills in the real world. I`ve been given plenty of responsibility and have really been made to feel a valued member of the team at Sawford Sheet Metal."
Previous SSM placement students include Grace Henderson, who has now graduated with a BA Honours in Business Studies, and Lyndsey Adkin, who is undertaking her final year. SSM plans to continue to provide quality work experience each year for enthusiastic young people keen to contribute to life here at the sharp end of sheet metal fabrication.
THE FIRST CUT IS THE SWEETEST…
First major contract for new laser-cutting equipment completed.
Working in conjunction with Oakley Young (Design Consultants) of Leicester, SSM has successfully completed the production, metalworking, packaging and delivery of 3,000 futuristic display stands for `sharing` bags of Cadbury`s sweets.
The first major test for our laser-cutting facility, the job entailed 24 hour-a-day production over a four-week period, with the units being rolled out direct to Cadbury`s warehouse at a rate of around 800 per week.
